HALAL TRAVEL

THE BLOSSOMING ERA OF HALAL TRAVEL

RESHAPING THE THE GLOBAL TOURISM INDUSTRY
By Brenda Martinez

Since 2016 the number of Muslim travellers has grown nearly 30%. According to a study performed by Mastercard and CrescentRating.com, the travel sector will boost its economic contribution from $180 billion to $300 billion over the next decade.

Islamic and non-Islamic countries are starting to realize the tremendous business opportunity in Halal tourism. That is why more and more hoteliers, restaurateurs, and people from the industry are working on getting the Halal certification in each particular sector.

Turkey, Malaysia, Indonesia, and the UAE are the Islamic countries that have led the way in Halal tourism but not so far behind Singapore, Thailand, Japan, and the UK are among the top non-Islamic or OIC (Organization de the Islamic Conference) favourite Muslim destinations. Due to air connectivity, ease of communication, family-friendly destination, and access to pray spaces.

Hotels like Al Meroz Hotel in Thailand, Aerostar Hotel in Moscow, and Fairmont Makati in the Philippines have become very popular among tourists who seek a leisure holiday under the Halal standards. Many other hotels worldwide are following the way to ensure they fully comply with the Halal tourism requirements, offering Halal certified food/kitchens, Ramadan services and facilities, female staff for women, women-only floor, sessions for ladies in the swimming pool/gym, prayer room (surau), Qibla direction, prayer mats, alcohol-free beverages on-suite, and water usage-friendly washrooms.

Technology is playing an important role as well. Websites like halaltrip.com, hahaltravelguide.net, halalbooking.com, or bookhalalbeds.com offer a user-friendly portal with a wide range of Halal-certified services for Muslim explorers to enjoy. Mr. Hamdi of Halal Travel Guide explains: “We encourage Muslims to seek culturally immersive travel experiences outside of the traditional Muslim-friendly destinations such as Dubai or Morocco.”

So, whether you travel for business or leisure, make sure to surf the net. You will find a perfect option for a memorable trip!
